I have a choice at the moment of a Core i5 650 or a Quad Q8300. I use my pc for mainly office type suff and rarely play high end games. I do use photoshop and stuff like that.

On cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html the quad scores higher than the i5.

Which cpu should i choose to use?

Thanks

the i5 is a much newer and faster design.

For your use, it will be faster. It has L3 cache (which the Q8300 doesnt) as well as a faster clock (and faster architecture)

It also draws less power.

Ok thanks for that, why would the benchmark test show the quad scoring 3558 and the i5 only 3121? Sorry to be dumd but i am not an expert on CPU performance

benchmark makes use of all 4 cores, and isnt particularly an accurate indication of real world performance.
