Wow! This is a really strange CPU. What was AMD thinking when they released this odd speed? |

They were thinking 95 MHz x 6 If they released K6-2 with bus speed multiplier 6 it means they could produce AMD K6-2 600, at least they could have engineering samples of K6-2 600...

Very interesting/cool; no doubt that the end price for the two (there are two listed) will each be in triple digits. 380 MHz (95 x 4) is another interesting AMD clock speed; I found around 7 to 10 (some K6-2, some K6-III) on eBay currently. Why did AMD decide to use 95 MHz instead of 100 for bus speed?
I vaguely remember seeing eMachines (or similar) computers with 380 MHz AMD chips advertised in the Best Buy Sunday newspaper inserts a few years back; I remember thinking that it was an odd clock speed . I've never heard of 570 MHz chips.
Why are K6-2's often faster than K6-III's? _________________

I think the reason is the Leve2 cache, the K6-III at 450Mhz already produced a lot of heat, more than K6-2@450Mhz, besides, more transistor count (like K6-III) higher the defective rate at factory is, so it's easier to produce with reasonable success K6-2@550 etc. _________________ A computer without Windows is like a chocolate cake without mustard.
