alright guys, i had this same issue when i first got the board, but i was trying to mix ram, now ive got 4x512mb ddr400 sticks, bios 1006, 2x512mb works with dual channel, but when i try to install the other 2 sticks, well it says **** you to me lol, it still only shows 1gb of ram, and now single channel as well. in windows, on my computer properties it still only shows 1gb ram, but in cpu z it shows 2gb but single channel. i need help, and fast.
also i am running pentium 4 2.66ghz so memory is always clocked at 133mhz - 1:1 fsb - ram ratio.
thanks guys |

i would say either one of the memory slots or one of the memory sticks is dodgy.
As it seem the board is only registering 3 sticks.. and in a 3 stick configuration.. the 3rd stick is ignored
you may have to test each pair in single & dual mode to discover whether it is the sticks or slot that is the problem.
on a side note.. this board doesnt accept double-sided x16 DIMMs _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

| i already tried that, every ray of slots of/and sticks work individually and as a pair, but it will not recognize all 4 at once, and depending on 3 stick configuration it either shows just 512 or 1gb, never above 1 tho and only single channel as well |

There can be many reasons :
1) dirty contacts on memory stick or dusty memory slots (banks)
2) incompatible memory stick with motherboard
3) defect contacts (balls) under chipset - reflow, reballing or changing whole board is needed
4) defect memory sticks - test by memtest+ _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

i cleaned the contacts, i think maybe they are incompatible because i run memtest, and get no results, and in cpu z it shows that they only run at 166 and 200 mhz
is this the reason why? |

sorry for the frequent double posts, but a few thoughts and slightly off topic questions which might help my main problem
1 im not sure if my board is a p4g8x deluxe or just a p4g8x, are there anyways to to tell?
2 if it is deluxe, would updating the bios to 1007_2 beta help since i currently am using 1006
3 what is the highest cpu i can use, if i can run 800fsb would that help my memory situation and can i use 800fsb? will my mobo take hyper transport aswell?
thanks |
