Hello!
It is not a problem to remove the heatsink of an OEM/BULK slot 1-based PII or Celeron.
But the boxed versions look impossible to separate to me!
The one I have is a B80522P233512 (SL2QA). I'd like to know how to separate the two parts of the slot 1 plastic case, the one with the heatsink and the other, in order to clean the core and put a new thermal pad.
It looks like there are holes and screws, but I can't figure out. I believe it is the same for all boxed versions of SECC and SECC2 CPUs, am I right?
Hope you'll be able to help me, really need to do so.

use a flat head screwdriver and put it in the small gap by the retention clips at the top. twist it, and you should break the top clips inside that hold the heat spreader to the case.
yes, break. this WILL break it, so only do this if you dont care or you care more about seeing the inside.
as for the bottom clips, you can try using your fingers to pry the two pieces apart, but this probably wont work. i usually end up using a screwdriver to pry it open on the bottom, but since theres no hole like there is on the top, this ends up gouging the casing on those spots.
if anyone has a better way of doing this, id love to hear it  |

you can clip them back together,. they'll stay more or less in one piece
but you are breaking parts by seperating them |

But am I right, SEPP and SECC2 can be opened without breaking anything, right?

| secc2 can yes, theres just some plastic clips. use needlenose pliers to squeeze them together and it'll slip right off. then just bend them slightly back into place and its good as new. |

won't work..
secc2 has holes in the pcb for a clip to go through, this holds the heatsink on
secc1 doesnt have those holes |

Now onto an OEM PII 333... how do I open the cartridge to clean the tons of dust that live inside of it?
