Try at first clear CMOS by jumper. Please write fully name of model mobo which you have.

oh yeah and i forgot, i tried clearing the cmos by jumper but it still does the same thing. And for some reason the only way to get my computer to post is to manually set the speed of the cpu to 3ghz and manually set the ram to 400mhz, if i put them on auto the computer wont post.

Try to remove everything from the mobo and then add components one by one. Thus you will see which one is faulty.
For example, remove two of the three ram pieces you have. It could be a ram problem.
Also a bios update is always nice, if you can manage it.

i tried switching my grahics card with an ati 9550 and trying every stick of ram on its own, but still it freezes and randomly restarts at times. The only thing that made a difference was when i went back to my old celeron D processor 2.4ghz. i could leave the computer on overnight downloading and i would run perfectly, however when i do this with the pentium 4 3ghz, the computer would have usually restarted or freezed before the morning. im thinking it could be the voltage, the vcore in asus pc probe is at 1.374. Is that normal or should it be higher? Or is the problem somewhere else?
thanx for ur help so far

If your ASUS support this Pentium 4 and on Celeron D was OK so it is only one result = defect processor. Take him back to seller. That is my opinion for far diagnostic Smile
