MASSIVE earthquake followed by very large tsunamis just hit Japan.

Damage look pretty bad.

It pretty much ended up being a non-event in Hawaii, fortunately, but my thoughts are with those who were affected.

Tsunami just hit the coast here, about 2 meters, was at low tide so no major damage, just lots of smashed boats.

<<< We got some smashed boats also, but nothing major otherwise.

The strongest earthquake I experienced was a 7.9 (in California); the ground shook so violently that I could barely stand. And 8.9 is 10-times stronger, it's just unimaginable.

Amazing earthquake...one event you would never forget if you experienced it. They are now saying they expect over 1000 people to be killed, and this is in one of the best prepared countries in the world for earthquakes.
I hope all our Japanese friends and their families are safe.
