My Foxconn mobo supports socket LGA 775 cpu's. I am looking to buy a used Intel core 2 duo E6750 which is socket PLGA 775. Will this be compatible with my mobo. What does the P stand for?

Also, the E6750's spec includes "Instruction set - 64 bit" Does that mean it is not compatible with my XP 32 bit OS or does it mean that it supports up to 64 bit.

I would appreciate answers to both queries if that's ok

I have just submitted this query and I notice the letter P and the word up which I should have been underlined, has been has not been converted correctly. The E6750 socket should therefore read PLGA 775 and the second paragraph should read- up to 64 bit

It's not possible to tell that without knowing you motherboard model. It will fit into socket, but there are other things that may affect compatibility (chipset, BIOS, etc).

All 64-bit x86 processors, including E6750, are backwards compatible with 32-bit software.

Many thanks for your reply GHSV.

My Foxconn series number is :- M7VMX and the Manual shows it supports Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Extreme and Core 2 duo together with 1333/1066/800 Mhz FSB. I assume therefore the E6750 socket PLGA 775 cpu will also be compatible with the BIOS. As a matter of interest, what does the P stand for?

Given the above information, I would appreciate you confirmation the E6750 will be OK. Very Happy

P stands for plastic most likely (Plastic land grid array).
