I recently bought a PL-iP3/T adapter for my Dell Dimension v400. I have a Pentium III-S 1.4ghz(needs 133fsb) cpu to use it in it. The dimension has only a 100mhz fsb. I've changed the jumpers on the PL-iP3/T to the various settings. Setting it to 66 yields 66. Setting it to 100 yields 100. Setting it to 133 also yields 100. I'm wondering if there is a way to allow it to multiply the incoming fsb up to 133.

Thanks in advance,
Ted

It will depend on the chipset (I presume it's an i440BX?). Many boards were capable of being jumpered or set in the bios to 133Mhz fsb, but with those oem boards it's not always possible Sad

Another thing is that BX has a 4x divider for the PCI bus, but not an extra divider for AGP, meaning setting 133Mhz fsb will overclock your AGP bus.

Perhaps you should go look for a Tualeron 1400?

Well you see, this is an adapter that is supposed to to be able to override the systems fsb and emulate 66, 100, or 133 for the installed cpu. The problem is my adapter not emulating 133fsb when properly jumper'd to do so.

A. Made an account
B. Thanks to whoever moved this to the right place

Moving to a Tualitin Celeron is the other option, they are on eBay for 12$. Thing is, I got the P3-S; they have a 512 cache while the celerons has 256. So, I'd prefer to have the adapter do what it is intended to do, rather than buy a different(smaller cache) cpu.

Here are the computer specs. It does use a Intel 440BX AGPset.

The adapter only signals the motherboard through BSEL-pins to configure appropriate bus speed. In your case, you have a motherboard with 440BX northbridge. 100MHz is officially the highest supported bus speed without overclocking. Seems like the manufacturer of the motherboard does not support bus overclocking to 133MHz. Also, there is absolutely no PCI-divider in BX-chipset. Divider is in the PLL-IC, which can vary from board to board.

You can go for Celeron Tualatin 1400 which is on FSB 100. Like others said there is no option to force FSB 133 MHz.

I didn't know the adapter "requested" the fsb from the mobo. I thought it had its own clock generator and such. Now I understand and realize why it has the limitations it has.

Anyway, the Tualeron is working beautifully at it's proper 1.4ghz and I will be going out to do the installation for the customer today. Thanks for your help guys(/gals) and the 83 year-old lady who will be upgrading from a PII-400mhz to this also thanks you.
