For collection I prefer older non-CMOS microcontrollers from MCS-48 and MCS-51 families, especially if they are in white or purple ceramic packages. All newer microcontrollers look too boring - there are too many of them, and they are all in plastic DIP/PLCC/QFP...

Very nice!

I have a 8752 by NS as a CDIP-40 and one as CDIP-48,
both purple/gold w. tin pins.

Any Idea why there are different pin counts?

very common, I have several 8051s in a 100 pin package.

The Intel 8096 came standard in a 48oin CDIP.

There are also many others.
