I prefer to sort by class (family), and then by manufacturer. Processors of different manufacturers are equally valuable to me, while some families are high priority, and other families are low priority. If I sort by family and then by manufacturer then it's easier for me to see what I have from specific family and what's missing. I guess if you specialize in certain manufacturers (like Motorola or Intel), then sorting by manufacturer and then by family would make more sense.

Well since I only collect Intel that is an easy question My first two years of collecting, I collected everything and sorted them by Manufacture and then by MHZ. I was overwhelmed by the amount of chips I accumulated so I decided to go with Intel. If I would have collected another chip maker I could have saved a bundle...

i sort them by manufacturer, and then in general chronological order after.
so all the 8088s and 286s are at the bottom of the stack, while the athlons and pentium 4s are at the top. |

currently my collection (that is in the display case) Is sorted by package type, and then my class/manufacturer.
I did thhis because keeping the same packages together made organizing the cases easier (since the sizes were the same, the layouts were more uniform) _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!
