Hello,
I found a cpu that, based on my early forum post and the replies I got (thank you) should work in the computer I'm upgrading.
The question now is, is there anything special about the process of actually replacing the cpu? Can I just switch them and be ready to go?
Thanks,

Usually there is nothing special about upgrading the processors. After you plug in the new processor the motherboard should detect it and adjust clock multiplier/FSB accordingly. Before you upgrade make sure that your version of BIOS supports the processor.

I can't even figure out how to get into the BIOS on this particular machine. It's an old Compaq Presario 5528 all-in-one running Windows 95. When it boots up there is never a prompt about how to get into the BIOS. I have gotten to the screen that allows me to choose going into SAFE MODE, but there is no BIOS info option.
Any ideas on how to check compatibility? I now the socket on the motherboard supports the chip, but I'm guessing that has nothing to do with the BIOS setup.
Thanks again,

| Don't worry about upgrading the BIOS, just switch the CPU's. Once it's in, it may run at a slower speed because of an old BIOS version, but you can always upgrade that afterwards. |

thank you, thank you - I will do that. If the speed doesn't seem up to speed, you may see another post in the future about switching the BIOS, but hopefully I'll get what I need out of the the new chip.
Thanks again to all,
