I've updated my computer recently - replaced the good old Q6600 by an QX6800.

Does somebody know QX6800's ( SLACP s-spec) default VCore at its stock frequency of 2.93 GHz? I mean the default voltage under full load and not the voltage range of safe operaiton from the Intel documentation.

First I let the motherboard decide, but the CPU got quite hot at the proposed 1.325 V. Through experimenting I was able to achieve Prime-95-stable operation at only 1.125 V. The power consuption of the whole system (full load) went down from 438 W to 359 W !

That's why I'm curious to know if the automatic VCore settings of the BIOS were completely wrong, or this particular chip has a really great undervoltage potential.
Thanks!

There is no default voltage, that applies to all SLACP processor. Each individual processor is programmed at the factory with its own VID value in the range 1.1 - 1.372.

I guess you were lucky that the chip can be underclocked that low.

Run Orthos Prime on priority 10. My Pentium DualCore E2160 from 1,8 went to 3,37 stable and I'm playing Crysis 2 on hardcore details at free time Wink At 3,6 GHz Prime95 have not seen any problems but Orthos did.

Thanks for the helpful information!

I must admit that I didn't know that each Core 2 Quad has its individual default VCore.
I'll run Orthos - let's see what comes out...
