|
|
I have some AMD K5 PR133ABR gold top chips that have
a very heavy epoxy left on them after the heat sinks
were removed. I have tried soaking the tops with
a citrus based label remover but it's not working
very well.
Anyone have any ideas of what solvent to try?
Thanks!

Soaking them in methylated spirits will cause the epoxy to soften after which it is easy to remove - it just flakes off and the residue is easily wiped off.
However, doing this may remove the black print from goldtop chips. _________________ General failure reading disk in drive A

Probably heat, sharp edged tool and patience.
I've had some success with a product called Aircraft Remover / Stripper, hard to find. The fumes are great (if you like that kind of stuff) _________________ The two most common elements on Earth are oxygen and stupidity. |

I will be sure to remove the epoxy in a well ventilated area.
The chips will be for sale soon once this wretched epoxy is removed. |

I would try the "methylated spirits", AKA Rubbing Alcohol.
It's the only method that has worked for me to remove EPOXY.
Let the gold face lay in a shallow amount of the alcohol overnight and then use a single edged razor blade to carefully scrape it off.
Be careful not to use too much pressure or you might damage the black print. _________________ My collection list (growing) http://johnorun.x86-guide.com/en/collection.html |

Thanks! I will give it a try. I have used denatured alcohol
for cleaning ink marks from computers in the past and the
thermal paste from processors. |

Ah well - denatured alcohol gets the epoxy off fine and
unfortunately some of the lettering as well. Waah!
Oh well, it was worth a try. Thanks for the tips. |
