Nice chip. Be careful with acetone but worth to try.

AWESOME! Shocked
Never saw something like this before, looks like it is
pretty old since the chip-dies were bonded.
Could you take macro-pictures of some chip-dies?
Maybe that would give a clue who the
manufacturer was.
Hitachi, Fujitsu and NEC made a few MCMs as far I know
but I never saw an older one before.
So maybe yours is one of the early generation from
one of these three!

The contact land arrays on your MCM are pointing
to a DEC VAX9000 MCM with its uncommon connection-
foils but I think your MCM is smaller:

thank you andre.
I also think they are two different chips.
I cannot understand what are contact land arrays and how do you know that of this chip? Confused

Hello from Italy,
IMHO it isn't a DEC VAX 9000 MCM. It looks more like a NEC MCM for the ACOS System-1000 server series.
Here is a link with a picture: http://museum.ipsj.or.jp/en/computer/main/0053.html.

Hello Paolo,

You're superman with powerful knowledge about all special cpus because you can identify most unusual cpus with picture.

Awesome.

@Hugo Your cpu is ACOS System-1000 cpu according to the picutre. Please let me know if you're interested to sell it.

It costed me $$$ to save it from gold scarper.
I dont know what it exactly is at that time but I think it should be something important.

Now I think the salvage is deserved Smile

Hi Hugo.
(we have dealt before, a couple years ago)
Maybe you should send me some photos... the links no longer work here, but I have become somewhat 'expert' on NEC MCMs, and might be able to tell if your chip is from the ACOS 1000 -- or one of NEC's later supercomputers.
I now have three MCMs that look very much like the ACOS -- but two are 'controller' MCMs used in the NEC SX-3R, and the third is from a Honeywell DSP 88 [with MCMs were made for Honeywell by NEC].
Peter Newman

hmmm... maybe I will try to add some pictures here over the weekend

I will try to download a photo showing two of the NEC MCMs I referred to.
On the left is a paperweight with a Honeywell DSP 88 MCM, made for them by NEC.
One the right is a controller MCM from the NEC SX-3R supercomputer.

Could not get full-sized photo accepted, had to reduce it 2X. If you want to see better images send me a message with an external email eddress.
