I am currently running an XP 2000+, which can still somewhat handle games like Half-Life 2, Doom 3, UT2004, COD, etc. I want to buy an XP 3200+ or 3000+ as an upgrade. Would it be significant and last me from a few more years?
XP 2000+ = 1.67 GHz
XP 3200+ = 2.20 GHz
Respectable increase in performance???
P.S. AMD RULES! |

First, consider upgrading to AMD64. This will give you an AMAZING performance boost, even for the low-frequency models.
Second, if you still want an XP, what is your mainboard model? It probably won't handle a Barton. You may look up in your manual.
P.S. I use Athlon XP 3000+ now and feel like I won't be upgrading it for ages.
Comment: Modern games also require modern video adapters and lots of RAM. _________________ Collecting soviet and western CPUs once again -- highfive to old-timers o/ |

Slava have right. You must have good VGA card minimum 6600 or 6800 for playing in these games on medium or high details. I think Athlon 2000+ and good VGA still can be satisfy and does not have a sense to buy 3000+ _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Well my motherboard is a Asus A7V8X and is a Socket A 400 FSB. The XP 3200+ is the biggest thing that will fit in my motherboard. No 64 will ever fit a socket A.
And I don't need a better VGA card, my CPU is just showing its age. I have a good card. And my ram doesn't budge on Memory tests either. Its only my CPU that pins out at 100% during heavy gaming like GTA SA. |
