cant get CPU to work...need help

when i first built this pc i installed a i3 cpu, i am trying to upgrade to a i7-870 LGA 1156 when i tried to installed it i turned the pc on and the monitor, mouse and keyboard do not power on. I tried updating my bios and that still did not work i dont know what the problem is.

mobo: msi p55-cd53
CPU: intel i3 530
HD: 1tb caviar black
RAM: 4gb croisair
OS: win7-32bit
video card:Radeon HD 5700

what is the sSpec of the i7-870 you have?

Try cleaning a contact points on processor (not a socket! ) by i.e. alcohol.

Like Neon_WA said it should work. Maybe chip is dead.

spec is a SLBJG, i thought the chip was defective at first..so i sent it back to newegg and they sent me a replacement one and that one does the same thing

i dont know what to do, its aggrivating me i done everything..i updated bios i checked and made sure everything is properly inplace.......if the board is OEM which im not sure if it is...if u install a CPU for the 1st time on the board is that the one you are stuck with?

No, you can change but sometimes CPU support list is limited in OEM BIOS. What I can recommend you is try with different RAM or put in only one memory stick in different banks. I have had a same problem and that was memory incompatibility.
