Hello, everyone.
A few days ago, I've decided to build a decent, but old AMD system. I've heard that the Barton CPU's were really good at their time. My problem is, that I bought an AMD Athlon XP 2500+, with barton core (AXDA2500DKV4D), but the mainboard recognizes it as AMD Duron 850MHz. For some reaseon, the multiplier is only 5x, when it should be 11x. Tried to set the multiplier, but these CPUs are locked. I am using an Asrock K7S8X, flashed the latest BIOS, but the problem still presists. Also tried the CPU in MSI KT4 Ultra, and it shows the same: AMD Duron 850Mhz. Any suggestions?
I would really appreciate your help.
Sorry for my english. |

There are FSB jumpers on K7S8X board : FSB_SEL0 and FSB_SEL1. Set jumpers on 1-2 pins.
Can you post a high resolution pictures of CPU and it;s core ? _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Yes, I've set the FSB to 333MHz, with the jumpers. It posts as 170(FSB)x5(multiplier)=850Mhz Duron... I will post a picture from the cpu's core. |

Are you sure that you don't actually have a Mobile Athlon XP-M 2500+, like AXMH2500FQQ4C? If I recall correctly, these boot up at 5x multiplier.
Check the part number on your CPU. If it is the correct desktop part (as you listed above), then perhaps the motherboard BIOS does not recognize Bartons, or perhaps it is a fake part. |

Where can I check the part number? All I know is that it is an AXDA2500DKV4D. |

| The part number is printed on the label on top of the processor. |

Okay, I will write down what's on the cpu, just to be sure:
AXDA2500DKV4D Z3683367241918
AQYHA 0346TPMW
On the right side, there's a numer(near the gold arrow): 27493 |

I have never had a issue like that with genuine and desktop CPU. You have tested it on VIA KT400 and SIS chipsets. Most compatible chipset were nVidia Nforce 2 but I think it is not worth to buy a special motherboard only for tests - it is easier to change CPU.
Maybe someone before you have modded chip and somehow locked the multiplier. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

The weirdest thing is that the L2 cache is only 128kb, when it should be 512.
I've bought a Sempron 2800+ with Thorton core instead. I know its not that fast, but it will be enough, until I find another Barton. The Sempron is recognized correctly. |

sounds like a remarked CPU then
I have found Athlons & Athlon XPs remarked from Duron & Semprons _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:
