Got this drive and need to hook it up to a pc or some other machine to use it.
It was iriginally used with RS6000 & AS400
DRIVE IS LIKE HERE, VERY TOP ONE:

it might be called FAT-2GIG 2GB Twin X as well, but not sure...

HOW CAN I HOOK IT UP TO A PC?

Can you tell what is the smallest (newest) hardware i could hook it up to if any ? (original equipment seem to be too big for home usage)
will IBM 36 series work ? or may be if i would find a "controller" card for it ...or something

On space/cost standpoint your best bet is probably some entry level AS/400 or iSeries tower model. But then again, AS/400 is not your regular server. It all depends what you are trying to achive using this particular tape drive.

i need this drive to read tapes and transfer files in readable format to a now-a-days pc/mac
(i did encounter as/400 back in tallinn, so i am sort of familiar with it, but surely had to get comms reference

I think it's way more easier to aquire similar tape drive with SCSI interface. Or, maybe the drive inside already has SCSI interface.

AS400 is very very propietary, I think that onli an as400 can work with it. os400 or iOS is compatible with all old equipment.

I think that the only option is conect it with an as400 and acces FTP in a windows terminal to copy data.
