Pick up some ArticSilver Articlean. It is miraculous and is organic. It smells like oranges! Takes off paste and goo better than isopropyl by a long shot, and equals nasty stuff like Xylene imo.

i recently clean and polish my CPUs with toothpaste and a fine toothbrush Smile Yes, donīt laughing ....it removes mixed with a little bit (very a little) of soap all remains of heatsink-compound, fingerprints on Goldcaps and oxidation on the connections. I did the first test with a cpu where aceton brought no more help (arctic silver on/in ceramic, oxidation on goldcap) Sad The CPU looks now as a new! Clean ceramic, clean Goldcap, no damage at the printing. OK, when markers or sticker on the surface, i must use aceton with cotton buds, too.

I remember an old thread where some guys struggled about handling chips and many agreed to things like: NEVER touch the pins with your fingers" ...

When I read all this ideas to clean chips I ask myself: do you all use surgery gloves (or however these finger condoms are called in english:-)

I try to prevent touching them but in any case it is a decision if the risk of damaging pins is worth a clean ceramic...

Heh I've never gone out of my way to avoid touching the pins. And I have CPUs that I've had for years. I have a 486->Pentium Overdrive that's from 1995 and in pristine condition. Unless you lather your hands up with some horrid acid every morning there's nothing to worry about. Smile
