Good morning all,
Here's the situation: D845WN motherboard, running a 1.6GHz 400MHz FSB socket 478 CPU. I want to upgrade. Intel website says max is 2.6GHz 400MHz 512k L2.
1) can I use a CPU with a higher FSB? The main issue is availability. It's very hard to find a 400MHz FSB 2.6GHz CPU
2) I found a CPU that seems to fit the bill. Intel SL6PP. Does anyone out there know if it will work? Intel offers ZERO support since the motherboard is out of date. My main concern is that the voltage is listed at 1.530V. Will that be an issue for a desktop PC?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

I think that if you use with that board a CPU that has a FSB higher than 400, the CPU will not work, or will work under it's rated clock.
About the voltage question, I think that if Intel says that the CPU will work you don't have to worry about it. Anyway, CPU's can support some overvolting if cool them well. |
