| and athlons64s dont get as hot as a p4 with a prescott core so you dont have a serious cpu cooling issue |

Athlon64 is fastest for almost everything, especially gaming. P4 may still have a slight edge on mpeg encoding... not sure.
P4 will use almost 2x the electricity on full usage, like if you're using Folding @ Home say. It's ridiculously hot as a result, and obviously will cost more to run. |

if you want speed and power, get the 3.6Ghz 775 p4. At stock speeds, it's equal to the FX55 (FX55 Costs about $900-$1000?) Overclocked, itll match the Fx57. Don't worry about the heat. Sure, you could bring that up 5-6 years ago when the Athlon XP was competing with the northwoods, but now there are amd64's and p4 775's.
Sure, a P4(Prescott or newer) will run a little bit hot, but look how much more heat it can sustain when compared to the amd64's... with phasechange, you could get around high 5 or low 6GHz. With amd 64's, it won't make it past 3.3. AMD may have more clocks per cycle, but you're all forgetting what the extra GHz, the extra Cache, and the high sustainable heat rate compensate for.... |

anyway... i'm actually running an A64 3500+ in socket 939 with an asus A8N-SLI deluxe, and i am very happy with it... and 2nd point: in dual core cpus, with amd, a simply bios update and you have dual core support; with intel you have to change the mobo to have dual core support... . i say but AMD for multimedia stuff, intel for mpeg coding... |
