Upgrading from dual core, to dual core.

I am replacing a 2006-model Intel Core 2 Duo @2.20 GHz with a 2011 Intel Pentium Dual-Core at stock 3.20GHz ( Socket 775, 2MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB). Will I notice a difference in speed? I am also increasing my RAM from 4GB DDR2 to 8GB DDR2.

The reason I'm asking is because some people say that if you go from a dual-core to a dual-core, even if it's faster, does not exponentially increase the speed. So I am majorly confused.

Performance increase won't be exponential, it will more like linear. In some applications it will be 3.2 / 2.2 = about 1.45 times faster. Pentium has higher FSB so it could be even slightly faster. Whether you see it or not depends on other components. If your system is memory limited, or has slow disk, or slow graphics, then faster CPU won't help much. If you other system components are good enough, then you'll notice the difference.

Go with the E6800- Might as well max out the multiplier step.

If your system has DDR3 (which I doubt) you may want to go with a E7xxx processor or a quad with FSB1333.
