That aluminium cap on the back looks, uhmmm, unnatural. I don't lilke the markings on the top either - font is different from other MMX overdrives. Could it be a fake?

Hmmm That CPU I bought in shop with used parts - no trade from China etc. I never heard that : fake CPUs arrive to polish shops. Of course I'm not sure but maybe is chance to identify if somebody who have Overdrive 200 V2.8. Then we can compare.
Aluminium cap not looks like hand work, CPU was tested and work. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

It doesn' look like it was put there by Intel either. Just think about this - they created design specification for the socket and the package, sent this specification to motherboard manufacturers, and then they make the processor not compatible with this specification by adding an aluminum cap on the back? I doubt they would do that.

I don't know if your CPU is a fake but I can't agree with your logic. What makes you think CPUs traded from China are fake? |

There are tons of old CPUs shipped to China for recovery every day from all over the world. It is not suprising there're many fakes, but they are not necessarily forged in China.
Does it make sense to say a chip is not a fake because it's not from China? The logic does not stand.
I've seen a lot of such sayings targeting a whole country on this forum. Maybe you don't need to consider other people's feeling but if this is allowed, I can make many similar conclusions, and some people won't feel comfortable with them either. |

This is true, and you make a good point with the fact that most scrap CPU's are sold to China.
I do know that most all remarking busts were made in Taiwan, with some in Eastern Europe and China.
In the US they just steal truckfulls of Intel CPU's and resell them. _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

I was to speedy saying (suggesting) that all FAKE CPUs are from CHINA. I was in wrong because my knowlage was not enough to be certain. On this subject can expressone's people who have many years of experience.
Last few weeks I contacted with persons (in Poland) who faked chips : ingraved, remarked etc. I was surprised when I got this information. But statistics from origin FAKE CPUs said most of them are from China. I think there isn't country were fake CPU wasn't made. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |
