Item 170687191747: 256 pieces of "supercomputer CPUs", but only a pretty bad photo. Seller won't respond to requests for better pictures. Do you guys think it's worth anything?
Item 190570903080: a bunch of IBM manframe CPUs sold as gold scrap. I'd love to buy the lot if there's a chance that a few of them are undamaged, but judging by the photo they're all in pretty bad shape. This seller isn't the responsive type either. Thoughts? |

Your having the same amount of luck as me when it comes to contacting buyers. I've e-mailed this one guy 4 times and put in 4 offers but he hasn't replied to any of them. It really sucks too as I really want the chip! And all I wanted to know was the cost of shipping. I was also looking at that second item you have listed, but they all look like they may have damaged pins or such.

they only worth $15 at most and they do appear for sale in the forum

He is selling the extra poor quality NON CPU chips.. so I wouldnt get too excited

I'm interested in this lot too but the price is too high. 
I'm curious about how much gold will be scrapped from this IBM cpus. I'm always told that IBM white ceramic will be scrapped for a lot of pure gold. e.g. IBM 3081 contain large pure gold inside the cpu. The scrap gold value will be approx. USD100 per cpu. Is it true? |

I'm not an expert but it's possible. These chips are big, heavy, and these days you only need 2 grams for $100.
Melting these down however is barbaric, no matter how you look at it. |

Well the gold recovery guys paid ~$4.50 per chip in last auction
but some of the newbie recovery guys over pay.... as I would only consider $3 each viable to male a profit if just using them for gold processing
To make it worth while.. they shouldn't pay more than a quarter of the gold value contained in the chip being processed

The bigger IBM white ceramic chip should come from 4361 midrange system according to his introduction. |

The higher the gold price, the more cpus will be "killed" for scrap. |
