Please provide information on this chip.
It was a D8080A before I scraped off that ugly enamel, now it's something strange. I've never seen anything like this. Can this be some sort of sample? _________________ Collecting soviet and western CPUs once again -- highfive to old-timers o/ |

I have a bnch of 2708 EPROMs that are marked with a house number and MOS. SO I imagine yours was the same, and then was remarked to 8080A.
I want to say mine were from a DEC but I can't remember for sure.
2892291-00 is the house number on mine _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

Agree. There was another thread before that mentioned Intel 8080 with 3013149-00 house number:

The only difference is in the last letter. Your chip has 'C', and John's (jrmunro) chip has 'A'. Maybe his chip is 8080 without A?

Does a house number mean a pre-public release name?
Then why does the datecode say 8003 ? And the other one on the back is 7949 ?
My idea is that someone had stolen these from Intel lab, remarked them to ordinary names and sold _________________ Collecting soviet and western CPUs once again -- highfive to old-timers o/ |

house number would be internal for ANOTHER company (ie DEC, or HP) they have their own part numbers and when they buy alot Intel marks them with it.
7949 should be the date when the package was made
8003 should be when the CPU was finished (die bonded to the substrate and top put on) _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

Not much of info, is it?
But well, you've got CS on yours. Custom Sample, if I'm right.
Probably if I scratch all of the enamel off, there will be a CS somewhere too
Do you have any board to test the chip and confirm that it is a C8080 ?
Mine must be a D8080A, as it was written on it. _________________ Collecting soviet and western CPUs once again -- highfive to old-timers o/ |
