My HP A7V8X-LA (Kelut) motherboard has a Socket A for an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ CPU. The HP-supplied CPU runs at a low-voltage of 1.56 V. Could I safely replace the low-voltage CPU with the stock version of said CPU that runs at 1.65 V, or would this damage the CPU or motherboard? AMD, ASUS and HP did not know the answer. The motherboard does not have a V core jumper and the BIOS does not have a V core setting. So I assume this motherboard auto detects the CPU and runs it at either the 1.56 or 1.65 voltage? This motherboard also supports an Athlon XP 3200+, which only runs at 1.65 V. I doubt HP had hidden the BIOS' V core setting because they state on their site you can upgrade this motherboard to a 3200+. Also, the motherboard manual confirms this spec. |

If the motherboard is compatible with Athlon XP 3200+ (HP site indeed states that it's compatible with it) then you shouldn't have problem using standard-voltage 3000+ in the board, and it won't damage the processor and the motherboard.
