What make/model motherboard do you have? What processor you can use is determined by what motherboard you have, not just the type of socket.

Also, if you want to post a picture you will need to register here, or host the picture elsewhere and link to it.

most important is the power consumption ..

Yours is this:
http://ark.intel.com/products/27145/Intel-Celeron-M-Processor-370-(1M-Cache-1_50-GHz-400-MHz-FSB)

Max TDP - 21 W .. you should search for one whose consumption is close.. installing a CPU with higher consumption maybe will work, but in time could damage the motherboard..

and since yours is with 400 FSB its better search for another with the same FSB ....

Actually, the motherboard can often take processors with different FSB, so it is not necessary to just stick to the same FSB. The same applies to the TDP. Values are determined by the chipset/motherboard, not by the processor being upgraded.

Your motherboaard has an Intel Intel i915GMS/i910GML rev 03 chipset. According to Intel, the 915GMS can take any Pentium M with a FSB of 400MHz, and the 910GML can take any Celeron M with a FSB of 400MHz.

There are a range of processor meeting that spec. Info from this site gives the following list:

Code:

Family          Model   CPU part number     Socket      Freq    FSB
Pentium M               RH80535GC0171M      479/478C    1400    400

Yes, they are all compatible with your chipset, and a google search for your motherboard showed various link that show people with a range of them on the same board.

To help you make your choice, you can get more information on all those chips on this site. Just go to www.cpu-world.com and there are search options on the right hand side. Type (or copy/paste) a part number in one of those search boxes and you will get a link to more information (maximum power draw, processor core, core voltages, special processor features, and much more). From any of them you will also get the option to compare that chip with any other, so that should help.

As the prices are now pretty cheap, I would just go for the fastest you can find, remembering that the Pentium M will perform better than Celeron M as they have more cache..

@Debs : all the CPU in your recommended list are with FSB 400 .. and almost all the TDP = 21w .. exept 2-3 ... but those 2-3 are 21 +/- 2-3w ....

so what i said before remains valid ... but you told him "by the book" and i told him by experience....

for that list, best performance will give Pentium 765 .. with 2100 Mhz... but Pentium 735 is anyway better than yours ... and yes, should work fine ..
