Can any one identify this logo? I found it on a silicon wafer of CMOS 5101 chips. This would have been a company that made CMOS SRAM memory chips in the mid to late 1970's. I am pretty sure it is not SSS. In addition to the this three box logo, this ram's head is on some of the test circuits. Thanks, Steve

Hi,
You found this on a silicon wafer?! How did you make a picture?
Do you have more? They look great!
I do not know who's logo this could be though.

I checked my 77, 79, 81, and 83 IC Master Company logo section and it's not listed.
I also did a google search on +'logo' +'3 cubes', etc and found nothing.
I think I remember seeing that 3-cube logo somewhere but I can't remember where. |

| I made the image with a Nikon microscope with some special lighting techniques. You can check out my website www.chipscapes.com and auctions on eBay under Chipscapes, if you like this kind of thing. |

How do you know for sure? If you could tell us the wafer diameter, that would help to pin down when it was manufactured.
I've seen the cube logo before also, but I can't for the life of me remember who it belongs to. In all likelihood the ram's head is meant to be taken literally. The lightning bolts probably indicate high ESD sensitivity, which makes sense for a CMOS chip.

BTW, those are some beautiful photos in your gallery. I've always thought of the layouts themselves as fascinating works of art. For instance, here's a chip I designed about 10 years ago in a 1.5-micron 2P2M CMOS process:
I modified the color palette a bit, but otherwise that's straight out of L-Edit. I have electrostatic plots of this stuff hanging all over my office...

| The wafer is 76mm. There are no dates on the wafer. |

| I think I have determined who made the 5101 wafer. I believe it is Space Electronics, Inc. Although I have not tied the 3 blocks to them, I have a couple of reasons to believe it is their logo. 1st I received the wafer from Albuquerque, New Mexico, where SEi had a plant. SEi has done some work with Intel developing rad hard versions of their products. Some of the other chips I got at the same time were from Sandia Labs. Both Sandia and SEi were doing work on rad hard components for space. Can anyone confirm that the three block or Rams head logos belonged to SEi. SEi was bought by Maxwell in 1999, so their history seems to be disappearing fast. |

Like I said, I don't think the ram's head is a company logo, but rather an identifier of some kind.
