Is this when a computer is doing nothing, or under heavy load (games, encoding)? If it's under heavy load then it's ok.

Is the mobile running at it's correct voltage and clock speed? Should be around 1.45v max on a mobile. If it is at that voltage that is a bit warm. Otherwise it's not a surprise to see it around 45C, especially if you're using a smaller heatsink. The mobo may not be an accurate temp reader too. Some are quite poorly calibrated. And if it's actually reading the CPU's on-die temp thermistor that temp is not bad at all. Usually boards read from below the CPU in the socket though.
NForce boards also sometimes don't properly enable C1/C2 cooling (CPU disconnect) which can significantly improve idle temps. Google nforce and c1/c2 cooling. There's a patch. Many BIOSes have an option too however which negates the need for the patch.
Still, remember, if you clock that CPU at its rated speed it's good for stable operation up to around 70-80C. Especially the mobile chips. |
