I agree. It should be compatible with your laptop.

Well, I did it and it wasn't good. Up for a couple minutes before a bsod. At best I got 3 to 4 hrs up time between app crashes before the bsod again.
My BIOS and drivers are as up to date as they can be and I had 7 passes from memtest86.
I did find a list of supported CPUs. Unfortunately mine's not listed but maybe it's because it hasn't been tested yet.
I see in there that, like the N660, the supported x920 also supports DDR3-1333 as the fastest memory. Per Acer, I can only use DDR3-1066 RAM, which is what I have 8GB of, perhaps that's an issue. I do see crucial.com list DDR3-1333 as an upgrade for my beast so maybe I could use it if I need to.

If your processor is recognized by BIOS then it is supported. There could be other things that cause these crashes. N660 has higher TDP than V120/V140/V160. There were reports of other people running 35W and even 45W processors in this notebook, so in my opinion Acer's fan/heatsink can handle the N660. Make sure that you use good quality thermal paste. N660 supports DDR3-1333, but it should also work with DDR3-1066. Did you try to use only one memory stick?

Thanks.
The N660 ran about 10c or more cooler than the original so I don't think the extra 10v is hurting anything. I did use what ever thermal paste m local tech shop uses, they gave me enough for a one-time replacement, it was white and not as firm as the gray stuff that was in it.
I did try to do a clean install of Windows but it kept failing at different points.
Well, if you say the difference in memory speeds should not matter, I'll try again when the new CPU gets here. Hopefully, it was just a faulty one I had. |

| I forgot to mention. I did not go with just a single stick of RAM. Not with the CPU troubles or with the memory test. I figured if I'm goinf to get 7 passes with both in, they have got to be good. |

It makes sense. Hopefully it was just a faulty CPU.

Thanks for all the support, it's all good now!
The only thing different is the processor, the one I had initially must have been faulty. |
