hp and amd lack of help upgrading cpu on 2+ motherboard

I was trying to upgrade my sons computer, an hp. Hp on its web sight says it is a am 2+ motherboard am3 cpus do not work but it comes with am3 cpu. I tried asking booth amd and hp what to do. no reply from hp. amd said to go to hps web sight for a list of am3 cpus. I sent two replies one text only and one with an attached copy of hps web sight so called list saying no to am3 cpus. The littitcher and web sight say the cpu that come with the computer say it comes with a single core am3 cpu.
