So I have a Acer Asipre 5532 (TERRIBLE laptop.) It runs a AMD Athlon 64 Processor TF-20 (1.6GHz) and uses a S1g1 Socket. I also have 3 GB Ram (+ an extra 3 Gigs, considering I always have my 4G Flash Drive plugged in with Ready-Boost. Ram isn't the issue, the CPU never uses enough of it.)

What I really need is at the minimum is a Dual Core Processor. I've looked and looked and looked. Almost NOTHING is compatible with a S1g1 socket. I tried Turion. S1 socket? Nope, S1g2-3.

My main goal is to run SWTOR: "Minimum" of AMD Dual-Core 4,000+ (Honestly, that's not the true minimum. I've ran it on my current specs. It runs, just at VERY low FPS. Ranging from 3 to 14 FPS. GPU rarely causes the FPS drop.)

So is there ANY decent Dual Core with a S1g1 Socket?

If not, is there any way of upgrading the Socket from s1g1 to atleast a s1g2 or g3? Thanks!

Please see this thread:

Whatever I said there regarding TF-20 upgrade also applies to your laptop.

There are no S1g2 and S1g3 processors compatible with S1g1.

AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile technology TL-66 - TMDTL66HAX5DC
(Can't posts links. Lol)

Is also a S1g1 Processor and seems to have better statistics than the suggested. The only issue seems to be the Wattage? Which can easily be solved with a new heatsink.

I'd go with the AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-68 which operates at 2.4Ghz and it's a dual core. They are simply amazing cpu's. Even comparing to a 2.4Ghz core 2 duo T8300. The TL-68 is a beast seriously. With the TL-68 On an Nvidia 7150M chip, and the intel on the intel graphics. The TL-68 blows the 2.4Ghz core 2 duo out of the water.

PS - I wish there was a 2.5Ghz dual core for my s1g1 laptop. And if you want that cpu hop on to ebay right now! it's like $39 USD Shipped! Amazing.

Got a great deal on and Aspire 5532. Found a TK-55 1.8ghz on eBay for $3.99. Installed in less than 20mins and never runs hot. Due to Radeon HD3200 graphics, not good for games.

Not a great laptop and barely plays most games but does what I want it to lor less than $80 investment. WoW on lowest (no PvP or raids) Supreme Commander - fine on low. I play Dune or Civilazation titles on occasion and they are fine. Good for surfing the net and word processing. Not bad for ripping CDs for the MP3 player while on the desktop. It also plays DVDs pretty good and with a USB stick or USB hard drive, it's lots of fun.

Check the compatibility charts and find and S1G1 processor. I think all of the TK series duals will work. Only a few of the TLs will. In eBay or CL adds, Make sure it clearly states that it is a S1G1 or it WILL NOT work on this laptop.

If you can find a 5532 Acer for less than $100 and it still works, its worth getting a dual core upgrade for less than $10 and having some fun.

On a side note, Ubuntu 12 runs fantastic on this thing but battery life is awful.

If battery life is awful, it may be time to replace the battery.
