i am looking to replace the existing cpu for a faster one as this one is in constant use it has started to freeze up while waiting to process all the information that windows 7 64bit throws at it

Hi,
The answer is Core 2 Duo T7600. Update BIOS to latest version before any upgreade.

Remember that not all models under 7600 will be compatible i.e. you can use 7600/7400/7200 but cann't 7500/7300/7100
