|
|
Hi,
My wife has an older PC running an AMD Duron 896MHz processor and it only has 128mb RAM which, for obvious reasons, I want to increase to at least 512Mb.
I understand some mobos will only run 512Mb and I therefore need 2 x 256 SDRAM modules whereas other mobos will support 1024 Mb RAM and I can then buy 1 or 2 512Mb SDRAM stix. I'd like to buy the 512Mb if I can so that I have the option of adding another 512Mb later if I want/need to.
Trouble is I have no Mobo manual and I cant seem to find a manufacturer name/model number on the mobo.
Can anyone tell me how to work out if 512SRAM modules are OK or if I can only use the 256 modules.(' ')

depends on your mainboard. I own an Epox 8kta and an ecs-XYZsomething with the same via kt-133 chipset. epox accepts 3x512 and works perfectly 24/7 here, while the ecs accepts 1x512, but not 2x512, 3x256 works fine on the ecs though. go for 2x256. I seriousy doubt your duron will still be in service when you need more than 2x256mb one day in the future.
