Hi, for the last month i have been searching the world! for the size of cpu my mother board can take. I have an TI6VG4 Apollo pro 133 ATX motherboard. It used to have a P3 650 mhz in it until it went bang and i had it repaired, and they put a Celeron 466 mhz cpu in. I have bought a P3 733mhz but it wont boot with this cpu in, i have changed the jumper clips but still nothing. Is the 733mhz cpu too big for my motherboard or is there a way i can get it to boot up with this higher rate cpu fitted. Thanks for your time. Clarke.

P3-650 uses 100MHz bus speed and celeron 466 uses 66MHz. P3-733 on the other hand has 133MHz bus. Your motherboard seems to support 133MHz bus, but maybe your memory is not PC133, because you've never had it higher than 100MHz... Just a thought, and matches with the symptoms

Thanks for that, but how do i know what memory i have? i have had a look, and it says i have 256 megabytes installed. The cpu was quite cheap so im not worried about having to get another one, what do you think is the highest cpu my motherboard will take? and will i have to stick to 66 or 100 bus? thanks, Clarke.

P3-733 is ok for your motherboard, but something else is causing the problem. It might be your memory or some option in the bios or a jumper on the motherboard. Try to clear the CMOS, it might help

Thanks for that i will try it. I have 133 memory and i have got the jumpers in the right place for 133 bus speed. I have checked in the bios and it all seems ok. Will keep going for as long as i can! next step out the window!!!
