That's not just a problem of the right scanner, it's because of the vertical incidence of light, engraved markings just don't have enough contrast then. I sometimes get quite good results (like this one), sometimes the engravements are not deep enough to give a good contrast (like this one). I also have trouble with very reflective chips (like this one or this one), the metal surface is very dark after the scan. You have to do a lot of Photoshop contrast tweaking afterwards to get a good result.
The only real solution for this problem would be to scan with another angle, like lift the chip on one side to avoid vertical reflection. _________________ ..::morkork::..
