I was trying to judge which of these 2 was the more rarer
just not sure XC is or MC is due to the package

Both MC and XC processors in this package with extra lid are rare. I would say that MC6800L is more rare.

similar to my thinking
but as most XCs have the gold lid.. I wasnt sure

If I remember correctly, some XC6800B processors, sold in 2006 / 2007, had those soldered lids:
