I picked up this old board the other day. I didn't think much of it till I removed two screws and unfolded the main central plate. Underneath was a large array of core memory! This is the first time I have seen it in person. I have no idea what the boards came from. The chip in this thread came from another board presumably from the same system.

Lovely find. Core memory is like a work of art _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Indeed, and many the early ones were threaded by hand by seamstresses.

| I ran into a guy who used to work at Control DATA in the early times and he told me about the fact that they'd take their work out to the homes of local women who would "sew" up their work at home and get it picked up later. They got paid by the piecework instead of employing them full time at an assembly facility...that kept their cost per bit under control. |

Yes. It was one of two loose boards, the other of which had the white ceramic SMC on it. _________________ General failure reading disk in drive A

They are good finds...nothing like that is ever on verges here. Even more recent PCs seem to be picked off in less than an hour |
