|
|
I've just received the board in the attached photo (sorry for the poor image quality) - basically I need to establish the CPU type (bottom shown in the lower left corner, top not available due to glued heatsink), and whether those are ordinary AT power, ISA, SIMM, FDD and SCSI connectors . If further info or close-ups are needed I'll try to get a better focus from my camera (the red plastic cover on the third "weird" slot says "FOR ETHERNET ONLY").
Many thanks in advance. |

| The board has ISA and NuBus slots, and it's a PGA 224 socket and chip, and it smells of something in the MIPS family. Anyone else clarify or correct me if i'm wrong? |

Well, I took a closer look (and some cleaner photos), and your guesses so far seem to be right - the CPU is most likely a NEC R5000, and the motherboard seems to originate from a Ricoh copier or printer.
If that's correct then I guess I cannot use it for "general purpose" tasks - I could try to plug an ISA video card into it and feed it power from an AT power supply, but that's probably a long, long shot (although the number of pins matches, I really doubt a copier would use an AT power supply) - besides, I don't have the proper SIMMs for it (they are a bit shorter than "normal ones" - 64 pins instead of 72).
The CPU is definitely worth keeping (especially if I manage to take the heatsink off), but I'm not sure if the board has any value... |

Might be out of a Canon Fiery Colour Laser Printer, A big expensive beast with a Hard drive and processor box attached. _________________ The Older they are the Better they are. |

The silkscreen on the board reads,
ELECTRONICS FOR IMAGING
XJ-PLUS MOTHERBOARD
Electronics for Imaging, Inc. makes the Fiery digital print servers, and XJ-Plus was one of the Fiery product lines |

| The CPU is a NEC VR5000 @ most likely 180MHz. |

I'd hang on to the board if I was you. They're not exactly common boards by any means. If you plan on trashing it, i'll pay shipping to have it. |

This morning I managed to twist the heatsink off the CPU - XJ+325 occurred in some of my searches as well, and it is indeed a 200 MHz NEC VR5000, which I'll obviously keep (and put next to my two other "weird" (non-x86) chips so far - an Intel A82385 and an IBM PPC604e).
As for the board, I guess I'll not toss it after all - it's not of much use to me, but if I do enough searching maybe I'll succeed in sending it to someone who's interested (I've never sent or received packages or payments (from) abroad, so I know nothing about shipping costs, customs taxes and so on). |
