Hello,
I want to try putting an Intel Pentium 4 550 3.4 GHz (or maybe a Celeron 2.8 GHz) Prescott, 90 nm LGA775 on an ASUS P5PL2-E that has a 945G chipset inside. I have not tried it yet in order not to damage my mainboard. The P4 550 is not officially supported and it seems that the CPU is not supported. (see official CPU support list @ http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5PL2E/#CPUS) Anyone experience with that mainboard/cpu?
Thank you so much if you could help me Smile

Btw, I'm currently running a Pentium D 925 Presler, 65nm on it, I'm testing these older CPUs just for fun. Is it useful to upgrade to a Core 2 Duo cpu with 65 nm? How big is the difference?

CPU support list says that the board supports P4-530/530J. I don't see why it wouldn't support P4 550/550J. It's the same processor with the same core stepping, only clocked faster. Also, 945G chipset supports Pentium 550 / 550J:

There i a P5PL2 board in my wifes computer with a P4 550J 3.4 in it.
The P5PL2-E is an enhanced version of the P5PL2. There doesn`t seem to be much difference between the 550/550J and the 551

Thank you very much. Maybe they enhanced the P5PL2 to add support for C2D cpus.
