| Is QPI going away in favor of DMI? I thought LGA 2011 was the new high-end. Why can't I find an LGA 2011 MB with a QPI FSB? |

QPI replaced the FSB. I think your terminology is a little mixed up.
DMI is the desktop management interface, which provides a common architecture for system component identification and management. It can be implemented to communicate with other management devices such as SNMP or AMT to pass detailed configuration data to a remote management station.
FSB is the front-side bus, which was previously used to connect a CPU to the northbridge/MCH/chipset. All bus data as well as memory IO was communicated to the processor via the FSB.
QPI is the bus that came to replace the FSB. The QPI connects the processor to one or more IO hubs / interconnects / switches on a motherboard to provide IO to the processor. Since most modern processors integrate a memory controller, this bus does not connect the processor to the system memory. Instead, the system memory is directly tied to the processor. |

QPI is used on dual- and multi-processing socket 2011 server motherboards. It is not supported by consumer boards, that are based on X79 chipset, and those are one-way only. If you need QPI, look for a board based on C600 series chipset.

QPI is used on a LOT more than dual and multi-CPU systems. There are several desktop chipsets that utilize QPI. The X48 and X58 come to mind. |

You're right. I assumed that the question was specific to LGA2011 motherboards.
