|
|
| Hi! I'm a newbie in this site. Please bear with me if my ignorance leads the way. (I have limited knowledge about computers) My friend recently gave me an old LGA 775 Pentium 4 platform (Asus P5PE-VM, 3.0Ghz Pentium 4 531 Prescott, 2Gb DDR400, 80Gb 7200 rpm Seagate HDD) coz he'll upgrade to 2nd gen core i5 series. He suggested that I should add a low priced SSD (Kingston SSDNow series) to complement the existing HDD & to make the unit more snappier in loading/opening of programs. However, based on my research, SSDs can be effective if the mainboard has a 6Gb/s SATA interface. Since my mainboard has only 1.5Gb/s SATA interface, is it possible to use it in this board? Does it hold back its performance? Can I use both SSD & HDD at the same time? I'll use the SSD for storing programs while the HDD for storing files. Is this a correct set-up? I'm a bit confused if this kind of set-up will really work best for me. Any comments/suggestions from you shall be appreciated. Thank you very much. |

Like Obama said - Yes we can! It is backward compatible.

Max at 1.5Gbps

Yes I use it in that way.

Depends on capacity which you gonna buy. If you buy 32 GB then create only one partition for system and some programs NOT GAMES. Second HDD will be storage for games and other files.
I use SSD from Micron RealSSD C300 in my HP 8510P notebook with SATAII controller. Difference is huge in compare to my previous HDD WD Black WD5000BPKT (one of the fastest standard 2,5" disk)
Remember that SSD it is not only write/read speed. It have very low access time and shock protection and no bad sector issue. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

I use a 120Gb SSD as my C: drive, and then my old HDD I use as a D:
From cold PC turn on, I can have open webpage in about 20 seconds. No speed record, but much faster than with HDD as C:
Overall, much better feel to desktop and switching between applications. No regrets, best upgrade after pair of top range IPS monitors. Dont sweat the peak performance specs, you wont notice unless you are a super power intensive user - and if you were, you wouldnt be asking on here. |
