I ain't sure whether should I ask about my CPU here ,as I can't find other good site for asking my CPU replacement.

I own a VAIO EB27FG an old sandy bridge CPU i3-350m.

Is it possible to upgrade to Ivy Bridge CPU?
If not, which types of CPU should I upgrade for gaming?

Thanks Very Happy

I very much doubt it. Your CPU comes in either BGA or PGA..if it is BGA you won't be able to upgrade at all. It doesn't look like Sony provide any bios updates etc for newer processors, so I don't think you have many options.

Core i3-350M is not a Sandy Bridge processor. It is one generation earlier, and it uses different socket G1. So, you cannot replace it with Sandy Bridge / Ivy bridge processor. If it's not a BGA chip, you should be able to replace with Core i5-560M, i5-580M, or i7-640M CPUs. If you have Intel HM55, HM57, PM55 or QM57 chipset then quad-core i7-740QM / i7-840QM CPUs may also work.

But how can I check whether my CPU is BGA or PGA?

Thanks so much

You can check it by opening your laptop and looking at the CPU. If it's in a socket then you're good to go. You can also use S-spec number from the CPU package (it reads like SLxxx) to determine if it's a BGA or PGA processor.
