I have it on good authority that underneath all that copper is something Intel.... My correspondent looked at the edges and got an Intel logo and a number but cannot make out the number properly.

I need someone/somewhere/somehow to get the darned copper and insulation off the darned thing without screwing it up too much.

I do have an offer through my work to mechanically polish it for me but that would be for one chip only Sad and would mean them breaking the wafer...... The other option is chemical etching buy involves some pretty nasty stuff like fuming nitric acid...... way beyond my home lab

Does anyone know of a service that I can use to get the top layers polished off? Very Happy

I had two of these wafers and traded one of them - I am looking for more but need to get a way of getting that damned copper off!!!

What about trying a Car Polisher/Buffer machine with a very light abrasive on it.........Something like Jiff......Could be worth a go but you would need some way of retaining the wafer on a very flat surface. Smile

I suspect if it is an Intel Wafer that by the size of the dies it could be a 486 CPU wafer. Cool

Ferric chloride maybe? It'd definitely dissolve the copper. Not sure how it'd make the wafer look.

We found the number - not A CPU but some piece of Intel history nevertheless
