Got this in June at a hamfest. So am i correct in assuming it's from Week 3 of 1986??
Are these pretty common chips?? |

Yes you are right with the date
earliest production 386 I have seen is week 16 1986
common.. nup.. not sure I have seen a similar marked one.. nice find mate

Yes you are right with the date

Only thing on the bottom of it is two capital "E"s right next to each other..
I was wondering if something like this is just an empty package with the lid on, or is there a die in there, and it failed testing, so they just stamped it as ES, Mech and went with that.. |

The Mech marking is post production.. so with what markings are on the top I would suggest that a die was included but failed testing _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

the very earliest production was 12MHz
