I have a Compaq cq62-225nr that I need to replace the cpu in. I was going to upgrade to a p920 or a n850. When I look at the HP site it lists different series for the system. When I call HP they say the chip is soldered to the board and can't be replaced (two different phone calls they said this.) It is not soldered it is in a S1 housing. My serial and model number give no clues.
My question;
Is every chip listed in the "CPUs, related to AMD Athlon II P320" section of http: //www . cpu-world .com/CPUs/K10/AMD-Athlon%20II%20Dual-Core%20Mobile%20P320%20-%20AMP320SGR22GM .html a viable upgrade path?
How do I find my "series" number as it is referred to here
http: // h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02641795.pdf on page 85 ???
Thanks

| All of the processors listed in the manual should be compatible. They are all socket S1g4. Just note that your P320 is a 25W chip, and if you go with a 35W chip replacement, then the notebook will likely run warmer when the CPU is working (not idle). |

Neon is right, all socket S1g4 processors should work, even the Phenom II X6x0/X9x0. It's better to avoid them unless you know for sure that your notebook's thermal solution can handle 45 Watt TDP.
