If your budget of 275 is to cover purchasing windows 7, video editing software, a full computer (cpu+motherboard+disks etc...) and a monitor, then if your intending on building yourself then I think you may as well just kiss goodbye to the idea as your budget is not sufficient.
You may look at buying a pre-built system, but still, at your price point your not going to get anything that is brilliant at video editing.
Ideally you want Windows 7 64 bit, as video editing can be improved a lot by installing more memory (ideally say 8GB+), also you could do with a quad core cpu and a video editing software that can utilize all the cores.
Your also going to need a reasonably big hard disk (at least 1TB) as when working with uncompressed .avi files these can get massive.
If your budget is strictly £275 max, then really your just going to have to find a pre-built pc that offers the best bang for buck and use it as it is, your never going to get a machine that excel's at video editing for that price point.
Realistically I think you need to double, or even quadrouple your budget if you want something that is reasonably good at it. |

| Your budget isn't even close to realistic. Let me work this in US dollars. 275 pounds is roughly 450 dollars. Of that, 130 of it would be a copy of Windows 7 Home Edition. That leaves $320. A descent monitor is going to run another 125, which leave you at 195 dollars. Of that, let's say you went with a cheap-o low end AMD A6-3650 (which is by no means a video editing CPU) and a low end gigabyte motherboard, that will run about 130 bucks, that leaves 65 bucks for a case, PSU, optical drive, video card, RAM, and a hard drive. Lets say you just used on-board video, and went with 4 gigs of cheap-o ddr3 RAM, that's $20, and you went with a Seagate Barracuda Green 1TB, that's 60 bucks, you're 15 over budget, and you don't even have a case, power supply, or optical drive yet (not to mention, a slow-ass CPU and using on board video). Realistically, you can expect to spend about US$750 at a MINIMUM to even get something that's work a crap for video editing, and that's not including the cost of whatever video editing software you go with. If you could scrounge together another US$200 you could maybe slap something together, but at your budget, it's not realistically going to happen. As a previous poster mentioned, you could get a relatively cheap pre-built system and add a little memory and a bigger hard drive to it. I see off-lease Dell Optiplex 755's all the time on eBay for US$100-ish, and they're actually good machines. Core 2 Duo E8400's, and for $60 you could add 4GB of DDR2 and another $60 add a 1TB hard drive, and you'd be in business way under budget, and honestly, it'd perform better than the AMD A6 in my opinion. Just my $0.02 |
