is this (i960 thin.jpg) consdered a CPU? I found it in an old Compaq Server today on a KVM controller board.
The second pic (i960.jpg) is of another i960, which someone else told me I should keep because it is used as a RISC CPU. |

IT's not only considered a CPU, it is! _________________ Frank. |

Brilliant, so it is a CPU. I am guessing it's use in this instance is for a second interface on the Compaq server it came out of.
I am tempted to sell it, but it is my second i960 now, and i think I may just start collecting them aswell
I have plenty of old server kit in the warehouse, I'll go have a look now.
PS, do you suggest I leave it on the card? |

you can use a hotair gun or oven to get it off.
the i960 is used as a controller on SCSI cards, printers, embedded devices, or as a monitoring chip for large servers. (not to mention a ton of other uses) _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

I'll be putting it in an oven. I haven't got a heatgun yet !
Just had a look around the warehouse, and found nothing but a boring old P PR 200 256k!
Seriously, is it worth my while taking this chip off.. I took it out of a 667 P3 Compaq server. perhaps it's still worth money as it is? |

Hmm.. well I've nicked the 667 out of the server now... I've basically turned the whole machine into scrap by taking this out aswell!
was really interested if this card on it's own was worth anyhing. |

I'm putting it in the oven now.
Say now or forever hold your peace.
CPUshack - if someone posts a link saying these cards are worth £50, I will not be happy
