Hello,

I recently inherited ALOT of CPUs, ICs,, Eproms and such. For the most part, I can name and sort them simply by researching online, for the most part, lol. But my father, who recently passed away and left me his wonderful, although very overwhelming vintage computer collection? Stock pile? Anyways, he had these boards set apart, and obviously thought the were important or at least special enough to wrap up very carefully and to keep apart.

So Im hoping someone can help me?

Thanks for any help!!

Crystal

Well, for some reason I cannot attach pics, my phone keeps taking them in too big of files.

So,

One board has about 60 Intel C2117--3 and N82S42N and about a dozen TMS 1820-1918.
3 other boards have Intel 3301A and one Intel C3107, the white and gray ceramic with one larger white and gold 1818 2101A 1574A.
Intel N5C180-75
Intel N82586
Siemens SAB 80186-N
AMD Intel N80L286-10/S
Intel N80186
About 20 of these TMS TI SN74AS8838GB

The rest are TMS, SDT, Motorola and RCA...I know its rather vague.

just a quick note, though it may look like SDT, those are actually going to be IDT chips

SN74AS8838 is a barrel shifter, which makes me think those board were telecom/DSP focused.

1818-xxxx and 1820-xxxx are house numbers for HP, likely the maker of those boards

Awesome, thank you!!

Are these better to keep or to strip for gold? My father both collected and refined as hobbies. Unfortunately, he got leukemia 3 years ago and after the first round of chemo, was unable to finish or to explain in detail what goes with what, and I am left with literally a garage full of computers and their components, but totally unsure of how to proceed in the way he would have done himself.

Thank you again for your help!!

CPU's EPROMs and older stuff in sockets (like 1101s etc) are worth selling to collectors, most of the other stuff can likely be scrapped.

Would love to! Unfortunately, my "smart" phone is having a hard time downsizing the camera and I can't upload pics..is there another way to send them?

all in all, I have a full garage of computer and testing equipment, with over 4000 ICs, Cpus, Eproms, and whatever else all the square ones are...lol...

i apologize for all the ignorance, this is a whole new world to me and i am scrambling to catch up! but it meant alot to my dad and was his passion and i would really like to see it all through, which means making sure i dont throw out or sell what he knew to be special or collectable.

so if there is another way to post pics, i will immediately!

ha, my husband has been out there non stop since we go it 2 weeks ago and still there are rows of boxes not yet opened. my dad was, shall we say, very passionate, about his hobbies and has been having flats of computers and such delivered weekly for years. apparently alot of the flats have not yet been touched. his main hobby was the refining, but he has always been a collector. he tried to explain it all at the end, but after 3 years of chemo and transplants, it wasnt very clear. but i would feel so bad if i ever knew i threw out something important, and he very much wanted me to finish out what he had started...lol...unfortunately this was not his only hobby....lol...

but its been the most intruiging to me and my living room is now covered in trays of ICs, CPUs, the whatevers as i try to organize even a plan of which way to organize them...lol...i was advised by a local refiner to just seperate the ceramic from the plastic and i did just that to over 2000 of them only to learn thru my own researching that, ha, there are actually alot of collectable plastic ones too...so or the past week i have been undoing that disaster, plucking all the Intels and AMDs and such... are the P4040, P8080 and all the other plastics from the 70's keepers? thats where i am now, sorting out all the earlier stuff.... there are hundreds of early 70's so i want to make sure thats the correct next step?

and then there are all the boards in the garage..ha.

i will send you some pics, that is awesome, thank you!

sometimes its easier to use a scanner too, just fill the glass with the ICs and scan, then we can tell ya whats worth keeping etc

Either way, happy to work with ya

Thank you...its been almost 3 months but seems like yesterday...

I sent John some pics, mostly examples of the Intels I have from the 70s, thank you John!!

For every ome shown, there are many more of the same. As well as thousands of ones from the 80s up, I just was clueless as to importance from there up. And for every Intel he has, there are 2 or 3 AMD to match it. He was also apparently a huge fan of HP, in particularly the white with gold pins and Motorola, most ceramic with gold pins, but plently of plastic as well. Oh, and Nec, boxes of Nec. And TMS, tones of TMS, with one very big all white one with gold pins. Have a lot of the really big Motorolas too. Ive gotten the ceramics with gold seperated from the rest but besides that really am clueless. So if there are any specific chips, plastic or ceramic, that are special, I would love to have those so I can find them.

It is harder to because my dad loved both collecting and refining but towards the end he was a bit foggy and disoriented so the two became horribly meshed and its proven quite difficult to know what he had planned for refining versus collectable.

So that is how I came here. Thank you for all of your help!!!

Crystal
