Just came across a Tandy 1000 sx and pulled the motherboard. It has an amd 8088 and I was wondering if any of the other chips are "collectible". I will post pics later this evening. I also saw an older pc so I took that motherboard as well, that one had a Cyrix 6x86! My first Cyrix! I am very excited

There are lots of Cyrix 166's on the internet. If you would have had a 150+, 120+, 100+ or 90+ they are more uncommon. The one you have looks to be a earlier one because it says "6x86P" and Cyrix was forced later to have "6x86PR" on them that stood for the "Performance Rating" system. Does it work?

I don't know if it works. I could try to rig up something to power the motherboard but I am not sure if I have the proper gear to do it right.

All it would take is an AT power supply, or an ATX power supply, and some custom wiring.

Don't rig anything up. Get the proper AT power supply otherwise you will just do damage. On Ebay these chips range from about $5-$15 depending on condition (works).

It's perfectly safe to convert between ATX and AT. There's published diagrams everywhere on the Internet. It's just a matter of pin-for-pin conversion. All the voltages are already there, you just have to mate it to a different connector. They even make plug-in adapters that you can get (eBay is a good source) that have an ATX socket on one side, and AT plugs on the other.
